My name is Stacy. I started collecting shortly after my mom passed away. This seems to be a familiar story for collectors. Grief or hard times lead many to seek comfort, and as far as comfort goes, perfume is a fairly innocuous route to take, so long as we don't take it to the extreme. Perfume has the power to evoke powerful memories and emotions. I found myself on a mission to track down the perfume that my mom wore in the eighties, the one she requested for every birthday and every Mother's Day gift. I felt that if I could just smell it, I'd get a little sense of her presence when she felt so desperately far from me. I did finally find that perfume, the one below. It's called Galore, and the vintage fragrance I purchased was in relatively good condition, meaning the scent had not deteriorated greatly. It smelled just as I remembered. It was the smell of her, of her hugs.
My mom was complex in a way, a quiet woman who could be deeply uncomfortable in social situations, who craved privacy, but who was unimaginably generous with her family and abounding in love. However, she would occasionally encounter those people who took her meekness as weakness, and that is when they would experience her bite. Quiet strength and deep love and gratitude within, but a dignity that would not allow for cruelty.
So at first when I thought," this profile is so bold, it doesn't fit her at all," I quickly reconsidered.
It's warm, but with notes of spice and resin that provide an edginess. It's suites her perfectly.
And thus began a love of fragrance and collecting that has led me here.
